I think it’s fair to say that – when it comes to picking a bookie – British bettors are quite an inward-looking bunch. They’ll almost always plump for a bookmaker based in the UK, not even stopping to consider their options elsewhere. To be fair, there are a hell of a lot of options in the UK… so why would you look further afield?
Well… because there might be better options out there! Ireland’s Boylesports is one of the more intriguing examples. Whilst Paddy Power might have seized the Irish bookie crown in terms of marketing, Boylesports is an extremely successful bookmaker. In fact, it’s the largest independent bookie in the country (Paddy Power, of course, are merged with Betfair).
Is it high time to take a look across the Irish sea for a fresh approach to your betting needs? Does Boylesports’ success in their home country translate to a wider market?
These questions, and many more, will soon be answered in my Boylesports review.
Boylesports Sports Sign Up Offer
The latest BoyleSports welcome bonus makes it possible for new customers to earn £30 in free bets when signing up, and bet £10 . In order to qualify, punters must complete the registration process with the bookie, before depositing and staking £10 or more on their preferred sports market.
As with any trustworthy betting promotion, terms and conditions have been put in place by BoyleSports, with the following being among the most important:
- Available only to new customers in the UK.
- Minimum stake of £10 and minimum odds of EVS (2.0) or greater required to qualify.
- Available to desktop and mobile customers.
- Deposits made using Skrill or Neteller are not eligible.
- Free bets can be used on any sports market at BoyleSports.
- Qualifying bets must be placed within 30 days of registering.
- Free bets will expire after 7 days.
- Cashed out bets will not count towards average stake.
- One free bet per customer.
Boylesports Sports Betting Ongoing Promotions (Updated On: November 2021)
So, I was pretty taken with the initial Boylesports offer. Can they follow up with some tasty ongoing promotions, and keep the interest of their bettors long after they’ve signed up?
The short answer is… yes!
The range of Boylesports promotions manages to be high on both quantity and quality. There are 14 in total, which is nothing to sneeze at, and I’d only really class two of those as “filler” (the Best Odds Guaranteed deals for horse and dog racing).
They also manage to strike a nice balance between long-term promotions and those which are event-specific. At the time of writing, for example, there are offers for Cheltenham, the FA Cup, and the Six Nations. The FA Cup deal gives you double winnings on selected games if a penalty is scored. The Six Nations offer is even better – if you’ve incorrectly picked the first try-scorer, but that player goes on to score a try later on, you’ll still get your money back as a free bet.
Arguably the most eye-catching long-term deal is All Sport Acca Loyalty. For every five accumulators you place, of at least £5, you’ll be given a whole other £5 acca for free. There’s also Acca Insurance, wherein you get your stake back as a free bet if one selection in your five-teamer fails to come in.
Needless to say, I am extremely impressed with the ongoing Boyle Sports’ promotions.
Boylesports Football Features and Bets
If you’re going to nail one section on a sports betting website… it should be the football section! Football betting dwarfs that of other sports, in both its cultural popularity and financial reward.
Boylesports do have a football section on their site, which is a good start! It’s not dedicated to football, though. Only around 50% of the screen shows football markets, with the rest being taken up by live games in other sports, and a series of links to Boylesports’ casino section.
Fortunately, however, this does not indicate a general lack of commitment to the sport. The space which is afforded to football betting is extremely well organised.
By default, you’re shown the biggest upcoming games from around the world, sorted by date. You can then navigate around all the other popular bet types for those games – BTTS, handicap, Over/Under 2.5 Goals, and so on. Arranging things in this way largely removes the need to actually delve into the markets for any particular match, to go hunting for the bet you want. The vast majority of your bets can be placed from the main screen.
There’s a very wide range of markets here. Both domestic and international football from around the world is available, for in-play and longer-term wagers. The in-play betting here isn’t the quickest I’ve seen, but it still only takes a few seconds to get a wager down. The Boyle Sports cash out feature is easy to both access – it’s always right at the top of the side bar – and use.
There’s no live streaming for football on Boylesports, but they do have a radio service which offers live commentary. Also, if you hover over a match that is going to be televised elsewhere, you’ll get a pop-up telling you which channel it’ll be on, which is a nice little touch.
Boylesports doesn’t have the widest range of football features. The ones which are present work well, though, and the section as a whole is well-arranged.
Other Betting Markets
Horse racing is clearly a big priority on Boylesports – perhaps an even bigger one than football. It’s the top section on both the home page and the side bar, has its own series of promotions, and there’s even live streaming available for races.
Plenty of attention is also paid to Gaelic football and rugby, as you’d expect from an Irish bookie, with promotions and a solid range of markets available for both. That aside, there isn’t a huge range of sports to bet on, but all the major bases – American sports, boxing, cricket, golf, and so on – are all covered.
Mobile Betting Options & App
The Boylesports app is marketed as having “unlimited features”. I have no idea what this actually means, but – ludicrous marketing claims aside – this is actually a very nice app indeed!
In general, it replicates all the functionality you get on the desktop version of the website… which is all you can ask for from an app, really. You get live odds, in-play betting and a cash out feature, and even recommended wagers based on your betting history.
The interface is extremely well-organised, making navigation a cinch. In fact, I’d argue that – at least in terms of its appearance – the Boyle sports mobile layout actually looks better than that on the desktop version. It’s certainly far less busy.
The app is available on both Google Play and the App Store. The Boylesports Android app has a solid, if not exceptional, 3.5/5 rating. Its iOS counterpart is currently faring better, at 4.1/5.
Opening an Boylesports Account
Creating a new account on Boylesports is extremely easy to do. The entire process – including making your first deposit – takes two minutes at most.
On the first screen, you need to enter all the usual personal information – name, address, date of birth, and so on. You’ll also create a username and password, and set up a security question. At this point, you have the option to put daily, weekly or monthly deposit limits on your account.
The Boyle bookie offers a solid variety of options for funding your account, although these are somewhat dependent on where you live.
This is primarily the case with credit and debit card payments, which are unavailable for residents of quite a few countries. Some examples include Australia, Brazil, Belgium and Canada, but you can find a full list here.
Elsewhere, Boylesports supports bank transfer, cheque, Skrill, Neteller, PayPal, and a few other minor methods. Again, these options are somewhat limited depending on your location, so I’d advise you to check that link above before signing up.
Regardless of which payment method you use, the minimum deposit amount is a nice, low £5. The minimum Boylesports withdrawal amount is £10.
Security and Safety
I’ve been pretty taken with Boylesports so far, as you’ve probably noticed. Giving information on their security measures, however, certainly isn’t this bookie’s strong suit.
They give very little clue as to how the website is protected. The only security measures I could find were SSL (which is used by basically every bookie), and that Boylesports has the “latest firewall technology” and anti-fraud checks to help secure your account. There are no further details about those latter two features.
If you were to ask me “Is Boylesports legit?”, I’d say yes, simply because of their longevity and strong reputation. I’d really like to have some more information about how users’ data and funds are secured, though.
At the risk of sounding like a broken record, this is yet another area in which Boylesports excels.
You can contact Boylesports directly via either live chat or phone (there are UK and RoI numbers available). If your enquiry isn’t urgent, you can use the ticketing system. Boylesports also advertise their Twitter support account as an option, but this hasn’t been used since mid-2018.
You’ll also find a very respectable Help Center, which basically serves as the FAQ section. This does a good job of answering the majority of the queries you might have, regarding promotions, bet types, and more.
Overall, the BoyleSports customer service offering is outstanding.
Boylesports Company Details
Boylesports was originally founded in Northern Ireland, back in 1982, by somebody – surprisingly enough – with the surname Boyle. John Boyle continued to serve as CEO all the way up until 2017, when he was replaced by Conor Gray.
Boylesports’ brick-and-mortar stores have been the foundation of their success. Since opening that first store in 1982, they’ve grown to have 250 outlets, as of late 2018. Despite this, they’ve still put an emphasis on growing their online operations, which include casino, poker and lottery offerings, in addition to their sportsbook.
While their roots are undoubtedly Irish, nowadays Boylesports are based in – you guessed it – Gibraltar. They hold gambling licenses with the commissions in both Britain and Gibraltar.
BoyleSports Bottom Line
In terms of these bookmaker reviews, Boylesports were one of the most pleasant surprises I’ve had in a long time.
At first glance, this doesn’t look like the most impressive or inviting bookie. Dig a little deeper, however, and you’ll find essentially every feature you’d expect from a modern bookie (live streaming aside), present and correct. Not only that, but everything is executed well too. From the layout to the customer service, this is simply a bookie which is easy to use. That, in itself, is immensely enjoyable.
I have absolutely no reservations in recommending that you sign up with Boyle sports today, and take advantage of their extremely enticing welcome offer.
