It’s often said that the internet has made the world a smaller place. This applies not just to business dealings or social connections, but to sports betting too. Every sportsbook might start off in one country, usually targeting customers in that country, but the successful ones will not only increase their revenues, but widen their target markets too.

In STS, we find a perfect example of this. They’re a Polish bookie originally, and enjoy a massive 49% market share in their home country. Now, they’re looking to expand their horizons. They want to begin by appealing to the millions of Poles living elsewhere in Europe and – presumably – pick up a few other nationalities on the way!

A good sportsbook will appeal not just to one group of people, of course, but to many. In our comprehensive STS review, we’ll find out if this bookie is really up to that lofty task.

STS Sign Up Offer

For any bookmaker looking to widen their user base, the welcome offer is a perfect opportunity to start doing just that. There’s really no better way to catch people’s attention, and get them to start spending money with you.

We’re pleased to say that STS absolutely nail it in this regard. The STS new customer offer is not only eye-catching, but it actually delivers too.

It’s called ‘£30 Welcome Bonus’, and it’s primarily one for the accumulator fans out there. Deposit at least £5 into your account, put down an acca of at least three selections, and you’ll be rewarded with a free bet matching your qualifying stake. That’s available up to a respectable £30, which is certainly nothing to sniff at.

Here are the main terms and conditions for the offer:

  • First deposit must be £5 or more
  • Qualifying accumulator must have at least three selections, each with odds of 4/5 (1.8) or higher
  • Qualifying stake must be between £5 and £30
  • Bet must be settled within 14 days of creating account
  • Deposits made using Paysafecard, Skrill, ecoPayz, Trustly, Rapid, MuchBetter or Neteller are ineligible
  • Stake will be matched, in the form of an STS free bet
  • Free bet must be used within 14 days of being awarded, at odds of 4/5 (1.8) or higher

All in all, this is an extremely fair welcome offer. In an ideal world we’d have preferred lower qualifying odds on the initial acca, as it’s not easy to win a multiples bet at those prices. The fact that you’re effectively givenyour whole stake back as a free bet, though – the odds for which offer much better value – definitely makes up for this.

STS Ongoing Promotions

STS make a fantastic first impression thanks to their high quality welcome offer. Unfortunately, however, they fail to follow up on that quality with their ongoing offers.

The ongoing STS promotions aren’t bad, by any means. There are simply far too few of them. In fact, there are a mere two available right now, and one of those has an extremely limited time scale.

That latter promotion is actually very nice indeed, and combines with the welcome offer perfectly. It’s a special offer for the Basketball World Cup (ongoing at the time of writing), which basically gives you a whole extra £5 to spend on basketball markets. To claim it, all you have to do is satisfy the terms of the original welcome offer… and you’ll get this thrown in too! The free bet can be spent on any basketball market during the World Cup, at lovely low odds of 1/2 (1.5).

The other STS offer isn’t quite so inventive, but it’s still solid. It’s a fairly standard acca insurance deal, called Extra 6+, which – as you can probably guess – applies to accumulators of six selections or more. Your stake must be between £2 and £50, and each selection must have odds of at least 3/5 (1.6). If just one selection loses, you’ll get a free bet which matches your stake.

In summary, the STS ongoing promotions which are in place are pretty impressive. We’d certainly like to see more of them added in the near future, though.

Security

Wherever a bookie was founded – whether in the UK, Poland, or anywhere else – they share one thing in common… none of them share much information about their security measures!

STS are a part of this proud tradition, giving out minimal security details on their site. In their T’s & C’s, they do promise that users’ funds are held “in a secure and appropriate manner”, in a bank separated from the bookie’s offices. They will also take security measures for the first withdrawal on a new account, or when changing payment methods, to confirm the user’s identity.

Aside from that, you’re reliant on STS’s licenses. Fortunately, those licenses are nice and strong. STS is fully regulated by both the UK’s Gambling Commission and the Malta Gaming Authority, both of which hold it to industry best practices.

STS Football Features

If you’re going to take your sportsbook to the next level, and eventually appeal to as many new customers as possible, you’d better make sure your football features are in order. It’s by far the most popular sport to bet on in Europe, after all!

Football doesn’t have its own section on STS, displaying things like in-play matches and the biggest upcoming games on a single screen. This is the approach usually favoured by the biggest bookies, simply because it makes everything more convenient.

Still, it’s not exactly difficult to navigate the football markets on STS via a series of menus and sub-menus. To access Premier League markets, for example, you use the list on the left to click on Football, then England, then Premier League (outright bets – including league winners, relegated teams and top goalscorer – have their own section). This will then open all the upcoming Premier League markets in another section of the screen. Click on a particular match, and all the markets for that game will be opened in the screen’s largest section.

The fact that the screen is split into four sections – list of markets, smaller section, larger section, and special offers on the far right – makes everything look a little ‘busy’. It doesn’t really affect your ability to navigate the site, though.

In terms of actual features, STS has a solid but unspectacular offering. In-play betting is present and correct, and – while the odds don’t update particularly frequently – your wagers are still placed quickly enough. They’re settled straight after the conclusion of an event, too. There’s also an STS cash out feature, which offers fair prices if you want to get out of a wager. The only obvious absence is live streaming, but this is somewhat offset by a decent visualisation tool (although we’d prefer to get a few more accompanying stats for live games).

Other Betting Markets

Football might have the most markets by far on STS, but they still do a fine job of providing betting opportunities for other sports too.

The tennis section is particularly strong, and fans of cricket, rugby, boxing and athletics are provided for amply. Elsewhere, STS actually provide enough markets for predominantly American sports – like American football, basketball and hockey – to compete with the biggest bookies.

Both horse and dog racing are the most obvious absences, but elsewhere this is a strong and well-rounded offering.

Mobile Betting Options & App

In this day and age, you’d expect most bookmakers to have their own dedicated mobile app, especially when they’ve had the success of an outfit like STS. In fact, few things frustrate us more than a bookie who has dropped the ball in this department!

In this particular case, however, we’re prepared to give STS the benefit of the doubt. While there’s neither an STS Android app nor an iOS version currently available in English, they do have apps in Polish which have been well-received by users. Given that they only acquired their British license in early 2019, it’s understandable that they haven’t developed an English version of the STS app yet. STS have already confirmed this is something they’re working on, as of late August 2019, in a response to a user enquiry on the App Store. We’re looking forward to taking a look at it!

In the absence of an actual app, you’d certainly hope that the STS mobile website was up to scratch… and we’re pleased to say that this is indeed the case!

The mobile site loads nice and quickly, whether you’re using WiFi or mobile data, and the stripped-down interface actually looks better (in our opinion) than the desktop version. Perhaps most importantly of all, it’s easy to navigate too. You pick your sport of choice from a scrolling menu at the top (you can also set your ‘Favourite’ markets for easy access, which is a nice touch), then use a series of menus to find the specific event you’re looking for. The odds within are clearly laid out too, with all the same bet types and markets as you’ll find on the desktop counterpart.

Overall, while we’d prefer a dedicated app, the STS mobile site definitely serves as a viable replacement for on-the-go bettors.

Opening an Account

Most bookmakers have pleasantly easy signup processes nowadays, and we’re pleased to say that STS follows suit. There are only two stages, both of which are clear and straightforward.

At the first stage, you enter your email address and password, and select your preferred currency. At the second, you hand over a few more personal details, including your name, username, birth date and address. You can also set daily, weekly or monthly deposit limits here, along with notification preferences. Finally you simply tick a reCAPTCHA box, agree to the T’s and C’s, and you’re done!

Banking Options

STS might not be a household name in the UK yet, but its banking options genuinely compete with those of the biggest brands.

There are nine deposit methods in total, ranging from your usual Visa and Mastercard to the likes of Neteller, Skrill, Trustly and ecoPayz. The minimum deposit amount depends on your chosen method. It’s only £5 for Skrill, for example, whereas it’s £10 for credit and debit cards.

All of the same methods are available for making an STS withdrawal, except for Rapid Transfer. You will need to provide some proof of ID before you can take money out, though. Withdrawals are free to make, and are usually processed within 2-3 working days.

Customer Support

While customer support should be a priority for every sportsbook, it can go either way with the non-premium bookies. With STS, we’re sorry to say, it is far from impressive.

There are several mentions of round-the-clock STS customer service on their website. On the About Us page, it specifically references “24/7 market leading customer service”. Within the Contact Us section, however, all you’ll find is a bog-standard email system, with no phone number or live chat provided. That does not count as 24/7 support in our book! There is live chat on the original Polish version of the site, however, suggesting that these lines were simply copied straight across.

This lack of direct STS contact options might be excusable if there was a good FAQ section in place… but there isn’t! The FAQ is formatted terribly, as if it’s simply been copied straight from Microsoft Word, and there are barely more than 10 entries, all of which are extremely brief.

STS Company Details

STS market themselves as the biggest bookmaker in Poland, and – if their claims to have a 49% market share are correct – we’d certainly believe them! They’ve enjoyed remarkable success considering they were only founded in 1997, employing over 1,500 people in Poland alone.

Not content to simply dominate the Polish market, STS expanded ambitiously in early 2019. In addition to their British and Maltese licenses, they are also now operating in Germany, Slovenia, Slovakia, Iceland, and elsewhere. Regardless of their roots or international aims, however, STS are – like many other bookies – based in good old Malta.

STS Bottom Line

You can’t help but admire STS’s bravery. They’ve barely been in business for two decades, but they’re already looking to expand into some of Europe’s biggest markets. Based on our findings in this STS review, they just might pull it off.

Even if you hadn’t heard of them before, make no mistake – this is a seriously professional and well-rounded bookmaker. Their range of markets and payment methods rival those of much bigger bookies, and – while the current lack of a mobile app is a mild annoyance – this is nicely countered by a very good mobile website. The only major gripe we have is with the customer service. Based on the quality elsewhere, however, we’d expect this to be improved sooner rather than later.

So, ‘Is STS legit?’ You’d better believe it, and it already represents a worthy betting option. We’d highly recommend taking advantage of the excellent £30 Welcome Bonus now, and giving STS the chance they deserve.
