Unibet occupy a strange, in-between spot in the UK betting landscape.

They’re not exactly a household name, compared to the likes of bet365, Coral, Labrokes, and so on. And yet, they’re hardly an unknown either – they have over 1000 employees on their books, and a reported 11 million customers worldwide.

Just because a bookie isn’t super-visible, and doesn’t haven’t the longest track record, does not mean they’re a bad option. In fact, these mid-range bookies often offer particularly good promotions, to make up for their lack of marketing.

So, is it time to look beyond the biggest bookmakers, and try finding some value elsewhere? Find out, in our in-depth Unibet Football review.

Unibet Sports Sign Up Offer

The Unibet betting new customer offer is one of the more innovative promotions on the market right now. You’re not guaranteed to actually receive any money with the offer. Instead, Unibet provide insurance on your first bet with them.

After you’ve opened an account and deposited some money, you must make a bet at odds of 2/5 or greater. If you win the bet, you get your stake and winnings back, as usual. If you lose the bet, you receive your entire stake back, up to a hefty £30 in value.

No coupons found.

Here are the most important Ts & Cs:

  • Qualifying bet must be £1 or more
  • Losing stakes are refunded as “bonus money”, not actual cash
  • To withdraw the bonus money, you must bet through it three times. E.g. if you receive £10, you must bet £30 in order to withdraw the bonus money

The Unibet sign up offer isn’t perfect, but it’s certainly interesting. We love the idea of getting insurance on your bet, especially all the way up to £30.

Needing to bet through your bonus three times to withdraw it does feel harsh, however, as there’s no telling how much of it will actually remain once you’ve done so.

The Multi-Boost offer is particularly generous, giving you a boost of up to 50% on your winnings for football multiples. We also love the creativity of their Penalty Payback offer, in which you get a full refund on certain losing football bets – up to a whopping £100 – if there’s a penalty in the game.

Unibet Sports and Football Ongoing Promotions

Finally, the more active gamblers out there will love the In-Play Free Bet Club. If you place five or more in-play bets of at least £10 during a week – on football, tennis, cricket, basketball or darts – Unibet will give you a whole other £10 free bet, no questions asked.

Unibet are the official betting partners of Aston Villa, Middlesbrough and Preston. As such they offered exclusive promotions related to these teams throughout the Championship season. If customers back any of these teams in the match result market stakes are refunded if they lose the match. Customers with Unibet will be credited with up to £100 in betting funds if they place bets on the first or last scorer, correct score and double result and there is a penalty awarded in the match.  From time to time there could be other football promotions related to the key matches in the Premier League and Champions League.

Unibet Football Features

Unibet’s standout football feature is undoubtedly its live streaming service, Unibet TV. The top divisions in France, Germany, Italy and Spain are all included, which is fantastic.

Unibet’s in-play betting is also outstanding. Along with constant updates on the action, you’re given a wide range of stats on most games courtesy of Sportradar. With the click of a button, you can find out each team’s recent form, how many goals they average, the head-to-head history of that fixture, and plenty more.

On the negative side, the interface leaves a lot to be desired. In fact, it’s flat-out confusing. For some reason, The UK bookmaker have split football betting into three entirely different sections: “Football”, “Football – Major Leagues”, and “Football – UK Daily”.

The “Major Leagues” section is completely empty at the time of writing, meaning we literally couldn’t even bet on the upcoming Premier League games. The “UK Daily” area is made up entirely of obscure lower league fare, and in the main “Football” section you can either make long-term outright bets, or wagers on live or immediately-upcoming games… and nothing in-between.

When it comes to football betting, Unibet is definitely a mixed bag. There’s a fine selection of features here, but the bizarre layout could be vastly improved.

Unibet Football Online Betting Interface and Odds

If you can get used to the layout there is no question that Unibet offers an outstanding football betting service. The main sports page displays the betting sports in alphabetical order. The most popular leagues are displayed separately and some of these are related to football. For example on the day the site was reviewed there were matches in the English Football League Cup and this was one of the popular leagues that day. The number of current bets is shown alongside the name of each sport.

At the time of writing there were 68,981 for football and the next most popular sport was basketball with less than 8,000 markets. In fact football bets made up more than 80% of the total. Unibet focuses on football but also covers more than 40 other sports.

The English Premier League is by far the most viewed and bet on football league in the world. However, four days before a programme of matches there were no odds for this league. Unibet offers odds on at least 12 competitions in England including the lower semi-professional leagues. It’s a massive negative that customers cannot bet on matches from the Premier League when all the UK based betting brands and others from the rest of Europe publish odds for the Premier League well in advance of the fixtures.  However, Unibet had odds for that evening’s EFL Cup matches. The operator offers outright odds for a number of leagues and Cup competitions.

For each football match Unibet displays the date of the match and starting time. The three-way match odds are shown and there is a link to the related markets. For the biggest match of the night that was shown live on television Unibet offered 170 markets under the following headings:

  • Most Popular
  • Full Time
  • Half
  • 3-Way Handicap
  • Asian Lines
  • Corners
  • Cards
  • Goal Scorer
  • Player Goals
  • Scorecast/Wincast
  • Match Events

There is no facility to create a customised bet which is available with other prominent operators and this also counts against Unibet. The head to head, probability and player stats have little details and other online bookmakers offer a more comprehensive historical results service. The three match result odds are compiled with a profit margin of 4% which is well below average.

Customers will tolerate some of the site’s football produce shortcomings if the odds on offer are attractive and Unibet’s football odds have one of the lowest margins in the industry. However, not posting odds for the English Premier League earlier in the week will alienate many potential customers.  This league is the most exposed in the world so it’s a safe option.

Despite the lack of Premier League odds, football betting at Unibet has something going for it with the in-play betting and live streaming.  A logo against the pre-match odds indicates if there will be in-play betting for which there is for most fixtures. Unibet offers up to 60 in-pay markets under the headings of full time, half time, Asian markets, time intervals and throw-ins which is a rare option. Action betting allows customers to bet on the next team to record an event such as a throw in or free kick.

There is a live feed of key events and graphic which shows the position of the ball and the team in possession. However, other bookmakers offer more live statistics. There is no indication that the brand offers a cash out facility which is another negative. Despite the range of countries and leagues the Unibet football produce leaves a lot to be desired while many other bookmakers are very strong and comprehensive for the sport. Its certainly a case of quantity over quality.

Other Betting Markets at Unibet Sport

Outside of football betting, Unibet have gone to great lengths to ensure that fans of other sports are catered for.

Their excellent live streaming service extends to the biggest tournaments in tennis, horse racing, snooker and basketball, all of which are available on Unibet TV. You can also find an extensive number of markets within these sports, for both in-play and outright bets.

Unibet doesn’t offer as many obscure sports to bet on as other major bookies, but every major sport is well-covered. That includes boxing, cricket, rugby and motorsports, with eSports also ably represented.

Unibet’s Football Betting App and Mobile Options

There’s a Unibet sports app for both Android and iOS devices. The Unibet Android app is available directly from Google Play, and you can get the iOS version from the App Store.

Much like the desktop version, the interface on Unibet’s mobile app isn’t particularly attractive. Still, the layout is highly functional. You can navigate between the most important sections – Home, In-Play, Sports and My Bets – easily thanks to a handy bar along the bottom. Everything else is housed in another menu which, again, is clearly laid out.

Special mention must be made of Unibet TV – the streaming service – which works flawlessly on the app. A range of ongoing events, from various sports, are seemingly always available. Watching them is as simple as tapping a couple of buttons, and the streams run smoothly and are visually clear.

Finally, the Unibet mobile website follows the same general layout as the other versions, and has the same features, including live streaming.

Security at Unibet

Many bookies are annoyingly secretive about their security measures. Well, Unibet are a breath of fresh air in this regard.

They have an entire page dedicated to outlining their security. On it, they clearly state exactly what they will and won’t do with your data, and how they’ll protect your account.

Precautions they take include 128-bit SSL, strong encryption on payments and your personal details, frequent testing of their system by third-party experts, and a 24/7 Intruder Detection System. They’re also fully licensed by the UK Gambling Commission.

We love the lengths Unibet go to to ensure their customers’ peace of mind.

Is sports betting with Unibet secured?, the answer is a resounding yes.

Unibet Sports Sections Interface and Layout

The user interface can be confusing at times and navigating to some of the most popular leagues is not intuitive. The in-play interface works well and there is a wide selection of live events many of which are streamed. Most of the Home Page is filled with the new customer welcome offer and new customers must scroll down the screen to see the popular leagues and alphabetical list of sports. The Home Page menu also has links to the casino, live casino, bingo, lottery betting and poker.

The dark green colour scheme makes the site clear and easy to read. The Home Page is used to advertise promotions and the match odds from the upcoming and current pre-match and  in-play betting markets.

Opening an Account at Unibet

Existing customers open their account by entering a unique username and password combination on the Home Page. Potential new customers click the ‘Register’ button which takes them to the registration page. To open an account users must enter personal, account and contact details. There are four screens to complete and once the required fields have been navigated the new account is confirmed. The qualifying bet must be placed before the welcome bonus is added to an account.

New customers must choose the banking method to deposit funds and the minimum deposit is £10.  Odds in a market are selected and the betting slip appears. As more selection are added customers are prompted to place combination and system bets. Once the stake has been entered and bet confirmed it is placed and the account balance is updated.

Banking Options

Unibet Sports Accepted Banking and Payment MethodsUnibet offer all the major payment methods you’d hope for. These include credit and debit card, PayPal, Skrill and bank transfer. The minimum deposit varies between £5 and £10 depending on how you pay. Deposits are made instantly, and no fees are charged regardless of how you deposit.

You can withdraw using the same methods, and – again – the minimum Unibet withdrawal amount varies depending on the method used. Your account must be verified, using photo ID, before you can make a withdrawal. Finally, withdrawals are usually processed within one day.

Customer Support

Unibet certainly don’t make it easy to get in touch with them.

Go to their “Help” section, and you’ll simply be directed to the help centre – an FAQ, basically. Scroll down a little, and Unibet suggest that – if you still haven’t found the answer to your problem – you should “ask our player community” (i.e. use a forum)… rather than just asking Unibet themselves.

In fact, you’ll only find out how to reach Unibet customer service by searching in the FAQ. There, you will find both live chat and email options. Phone support is supposedly available 24/7… but there’s no phone number to actually call.

This is all seriously unimpressive. When people are putting down their cold, hard cash with a bookie, the least they deserve in return is reasonable customer service. Unibet do their best to avoid talking to you at all.

Unibet Company Details

Unibet belongs to gambling giants Kindred Group. In fact, they were the group’s first betting company, but Kindred have since grown to include 32Red, Bingo.com, and the Kambi Group (who are a subsidiary).

Unibet was formed in 1997 as a brick-and-mortar bookie, launched their website in 1999, and have grown to become a truly international brand. They claim to have customers in over 100 countries, and have offices in the UK, Australia, France, and Belgium, to name just a few.

Recently, they’ve been making a big advertising push. In the past few years they’ve struck sponsorship deals with Aston Villa and Middlesbrough football teams, Warwickshire Cricket Club, and the Premier League of Darts.

Unibet Football Betting Review Bottom Line

We certainly wouldn’t describe Unibet as the perfect bookie for football fans, but there’s a lot to like here.

First and foremost, the streaming options might be the best around. Whether you want to watch a live event to help your wagering, or simply to relax, you can do so with Unibet TV. The service works brilliantly, even on a mobile device, and some of the world’s biggest sporting competitions are included.

On top of that, Unibet sports gives you most of the features you’d expect from a big bookie. The in-play betting works flawlessly, they have a wide range of ongoing promotions, and we love their commitment to security.

The layout could certainly be improved, as we’ve mentioned above, and we were disappointed with how hidden the Unibet contact options are. Neither of these problems are serious enough to stop us recommending Unibet, however.

Try out their innovative welcome offer, spend some time acclimatising to the layout, and Unibet could well become your bookie for the long term.
