Excellent Customer Service
For British football fans, SportPesa will almost certainly be best known as the shirt sponsors for Everton between 2017 and 2020. The company had already enjoyed considerable success in Africa, since launching in Kenya back in 2014. This sponsorship deal, however – valued at some £7 million per year – was a massive declaration of intent, showing just how committed SportPesa were to breaking into the lucrative UK market.
SportPesa’s brand awareness certainly benefited from all of this, but – more importantly – is the actual quality of their sportsbook up to scratch? That’s exactly what we’re going to find out, in this comprehensive SportPesa review. En route, we’ll be looking at the available promotions, betting markets, customer service options, and a whole lot more besides.
SportPesa Sign Up Offer
In general, there’s really not too much to complain about with SportPesa. The lack of a welcome bonus, however, is certainly disappointing. It’s also downright baffling, considering how SportPesa is still trying hard to make its mark in the competitive UK market. Unfortunately, we’d wager that the site is sure to lose a number of prospective customers simply because of this.
To be fair, there are a handful of notable bookies that don’t provide a welcome bonus. Instead, they offer minimal betting margins, enhanced odds, and other features that actually end up being more valuable in the long run than your typical welcome offer. After all, even the best welcome deals tend to be quite small in scale, with a typical free bet bonus being worth £10-30.
The point is this: we shouldn’t write off a bookmaker simply based on its welcome bonus, or lack of one. Even though there is no SportPesa new customer offer, after all, the site has some great features and a steady stream of regular promotions that everyone can take advantage of.
It’s also worth noting that SportPesa has indeed offered various welcome bonuses in the past. We can certainly hope that they will create one again in the future, therefore, whether it comes as a SportPesa free bet or any other form.
SportPesa Ongoing Promotions (Updated On: June 2022)
As touched upon, while SportPesa do lack a welcome offer, they still have a few innovative features and intriguing promotions on display. One of the most impressive SportPesa promotions is definitely Acca Boost, which gives punters a chance to significantly boost the win amounts on their accumulators.
To qualify, simply create an acca consisting of three or more legs, with each selection having odds of 1/5 (1.20) or higher. If it wins, SportPesa will inflate your winnings by up to 50%. The size of the boost depends on the number of selections in the bet. For instance, a winning three-fold acca will be boosted by 3% whilst a winning six-fold bet will receive a 15% boost. SportPesa will award the maximum 50% boost to any winning accumulator of 12 legs or more.
SportPesa’s Add2Bet feature is also extremely impressive. This allows punters to add new selections to any open single or combo bets. If you have an open wager that you’d like to make an addition to, simply go to the bet slip and click on ‘Add to Open Bet’. You can then add your new selection to the existing wager.
The SportPesa cash out feature is immensely helpful too. Like other such tools, it lets you close out a wager before the match in question concludes. If your side is winning, using cash out ensures you’ll profit on your bet even if your team or player collapses. Conversely, you can use cash out if your team looks like it will lose to minimise your losses. Not only does this work well functionally here, but you’re also given the option to make a partial cash out. This is a seriously big benefit, letting you simply bail on some of your bet while leaving the rest of your stake to play out as normal.
SportPesa Football Features
Providing the most extensive football coverage is essential for any bookmaker who wants to succeed in the British betting market. SportPesa offer odds for leagues in a whopping 50+ countries. In addition to the bigger European leagues like the EPL, Champions League, Europa League, and Bundesliga, you can bet on plenty of smaller competitions, from the Armenian Premier League to Vietnam’s V-League.
Finding a football market at SportPesa couldn’t be easier. When you arrive at the football section, you’ll see some of the most anticipated matches coming up. You can also see a list of popular leagues on the left side of the page. Scroll down that menu to search for leagues in specific countries, or simply use the handy search bar to find the matchup you’re looking for straight away.
Actually placing a wager is extremely straightforward too. When you click on the bet you want to make, it will instantly pop up on your bet slip on the right side of the page. If you only want to place that single wager, enter the stake and hit the ‘Place Bets’ button. If you want to build a parlay or a system bet, simply keep adding selections to the ticket, and you can click on the Acca or System tab on the bet slip to see more options. When you’re satisfied with your selections and you’ve entered the stake amount, simply click on the ‘Place Bets’ button to submit the wager.
Once you have honed in on a specific game, you’ll be presented with an impressive range of pre-match betting markets. A typical Premier League match gives punters nearly 200 different wagers to choose from before kick-off, and even a match from the Thai League 1 will offer nearly 100 pre-match options.
On top of the standard Match Result and Over/Under Goals, you can bet on First/Last Team to Score, Both Teams to Score, Double Chance, and basically anything else you can think of. There are plenty of player props too, which can net you a very nice payout indeed if you choose correctly. Elsewhere, hundreds of live wagering opportunities will also arise throughout the course of a game, with even games in smaller markets having dozens of in-play wagering options available.
Finally, punters who like to do some research before placing their wagers will definitely want to make use of SportPesa’s statistics. Click on the stats icon beside each matchup to find plenty of helpful information, including head-to-head stats, team stats, and even data relating to the referees and the stadium in which the match will be played. All in all, SportPesa has a lot to offer football bettors.
Other Betting Markets
Surprisingly, SportPesa does not cover either horse racing or greyhound racing. There are a few other sports missing from the menu too, including athletics, sailing, bandy, and Gaelic games. We were also unable to find Aussie rules.
Despite these omissions, SportPesa generally does a pretty good job of covering other sports. Fans of American Football can wager on the NFL, college football, and even Canadian football. In addition to MLB, baseball bettors can choose from a variety of other leagues including Japan’s NPB and Taiwan’s CPBL. You’ll also find an abundance of markets for ice hockey, basketball, rugby, cricket, and much more.
Mobile Betting Options & App
With the SportPesa app downloaded, you effectively have a fully-featured sportsbook in your pocket 24/7. You can get the SportPesa Android app or iOS version by clicking on the appropriate link at the top of the main page, or simply using Google Play or the App Store. Not only does this intuitive app give you full access to the impressive main betting platform, but it also lets users take advantage of a couple of mobile-only features.
Specifically, the Your Bet and Pulse Bet features are only available to those who use the mobile platform or app. ‘Your Bet’ is essentially a bet builder, letting craft same-game multiples on football and basketball matchups. In a Premier League football match, for example, you might combine the goal total, first-half spread, corners, and last team to score into a single wager. Better still, you can use this feature for both pre-match and in-play multiples. ‘Pulse Bet’ – as experienced punters will have guessed – lets you place short-term wagers, covering only the next few minutes of a football match.
Elsewhere, the app both looks and handles a lot like the desktop version. It’s equally easy to use, with bettors able to scroll through upcoming events, or simply tap on the sport you want to wager on, at will. The links respond quickly (assuming you have a stable wireless connection), which is especially important for live betting. While there’s no streaming, you can still follow the action live on your mobile device by heading into a matchup’s subsection.
If you don’t want to use the app for any reason, you’ll find that the SportPesa website has also been configured for mobile devices. You can simply use your browser to place bets, check stats, withdraw your winnings, and anything else you want to do. As an added bonus, you can also choose to receive push notifications, to help you avoid missing out on the latest promotions and price boosts.
SportPesa have several layers of security in place to protect their users. All important information – such as personal or financial data – is protected by powerful SSL encryption. This scrambles the information, rendering it completely unreadable to anyone who may intercept it, and is the same security technology that large financial institutions use. SportPesa also complies with both the UK Data Protection Act, and all the requirements of the United Kingdom Gambling Commission.
You should also know that SportPesa’s licensing agreement requires the bookmaker to keep operating funds and players’ money in separate accounts. This guarantees that your funds are always available for withdrawal in their entirety. Add all of that together, and the result is an indisputably safe and secure sports betting experience.
Opening an Account
It takes barely a minute to open a new SportPesa account. Simply open the app or go to SportPesa using your mobile or desktop browser, then click on the ‘Join’ link in the top-right corner of the main page. This will bring up the registration form, in which you’ll need to provide some basic information such as your name, date of birth, place of residence, and mobile number. You will also need to enter your email address, choose a username, and create a password.
Once you have submitted the completed registration form, SportPesa will send you a verification link via email. Clicking on it will activate your account, and you’re then free to fund your account and start placing wagers.
SportPesa doesn’t give you too many payment options, but the ones they support are safe, secure, and popular. You can use Skrill or Neteller to instantly deposit between £20 and £2,000. You can also deposit between £10 and £2,000 by using a Mastercard or Visa debit card.
SportPesa withdrawals must be made using the same method as you used to deposit, and – like deposits – withdrawals are completely free to make. Card withdrawals usually take between two and five days to go through, while ewallet withdrawals are typically processed within 24 hours.
Before conducting a withdrawal, you are required to confirm your age, identity, and home address. You can upload a copy of your driver’s license, passport, or a similar piece of photo ID that shows your picture and full name. This will verify your age and identity. A copy of a recent bank statement, utility bill, or another document that has your name and address on it will also be needed, to verify where you live.
The SportPesa customer support team is friendly and knowledgeable. Unfortunately however, they are only available between 8am and 9pm BST, which is some pretty underwhelming coverage. Getting in touch is easy enough, though – you can click on the blue icon in the bottom-left corner of your screen to connect with a live agent in seconds via live chat. Email and good old-fashioned snail mail are your other options for reaching out.
If you have a question outside of the regular SportPesa contact hours, you can probably find the answer by checking out the FAQ section. SportPesa extensively covers such topics as account verification, payments, sportsbook features, and a variety of other common queries.
SportPesa Company Details
SportPesa launched in Kenya back in 2014. Despite being a relatively young operator, they have quickly expanded into other African regions, including Tanzania, South Africa, and Nigeria. The company has also recently entered the European market, kicking off operations in the UK, Ireland, Italy, and the Isle of Man.
SportPesa sponsors several leagues and tournaments around the world. While most of them are based in Africa, they have also established partnerships with Arsenal, Southampton, and Hull City, and recently finished a lucrative shirt sponsorship deal with Everton.
SportPesa Bottom Line
It’s fair to say that things got off to a rocky start during our testing for this SportPesa review. Lacking a welcome offer isn’t exactly an unforgivable sin, as we explained earlier, but it’s still pretty bizarre in this day and age.
The more we used this sportsbook, however, the more we started to like it. While some sports are absent from SportPesa’s offering – most notably horse racing – the ones which are present have brilliant coverage. Finding markets and placing bets is extremely straightforward, and – if you do encounter any trouble – the customer service team is both easy to reach and helpful. We were also pleased to see the attention SportPesa have dedicated to mobile bettors. The iOS and Android apps are excellent, and providing mobile-only features is a neat touch.
Overall, if you can get past the absence of a welcome offer, SportPesa is a very good option indeed. Even without that one-off bonus, there are still some intriguing ongoing promotions and plenty of special features to enjoy.
